Hazardous Waste Disposal & Treatment

Hazardous Waste Removal and Disposal If you are a producer or broker of hazardous waste, you need to read this carefully; it may save you money.

CSG Lanstar is the country’s largest and most effective plant for treating and recovering hazardous waste. Working to Best Available Techniques (BAT) CSG Lanstar hazardous waste disposal service operates across the waste spectrum. It always follows the waste hierarchy of recover & recycle, treat and dispose.

Recovery & Recycling

The plant recovers & recycles precious and semi-precious metal, solvents, metals, plastics, WEEE products, drums and oils.

Treatment of aqueous wastes

Where possible, wastes are treated with other wastes to reduce costs and save raw materials, in addition wastes such as oils and metals are recovered and the effluent is dewatered via a filter press.

Other processes include:

• Neutralisation of acids & alkalis
• Reduction reactions (Chromic acid)
• Oxidation reactions (Aqueous cyanides)
• Flocculation & filtration (Sludge & suspensions)
• Centrifugation (Sludge)
• Hydrolysis of concentrated acids & water reactive chemicals
• Oil & water separation

Treatment prior to landfill

CSG Lanstar operates the Country’s only fully automated and enclosed solidification & fixation plant (SAF) for wastes destined for landfill. The plant is capable of accepting liquids, sludge and solid wastes delivered in drums, bags, IBC’s, bulk tankers, tippers and skips.

In July 2008 the mixing of different wastes in traditional mixing pits will be banned under new legislation, SAF will be the producers only remaining option.
